Tonight Mel took me to the restaurant she likes so much. It was pretty good but mostly it was just a good time getting out and walking on Gergarash. Gergarash is really the only street I know the name of, since no streets really have names. I don't know if Mel has talked about that but it's strange not having any sort of address system. Apparently Gaddafi thought we were going to bomb them and the street signs and addresses would help us know where to drop them. So this blog is even boring me.
So we went to dinner and enjoyed it. Then walked down to this place called Veranda, a little coffee and dessert place. And the best part was they had caramel macchiatos!! It wasn't a real one but it was very good. Also had strawberry gelato that was delicious. They also had a bunch of fancy looking deserts and Mel had something that looked like Tiramisu, but didn't taste like it. But it tasted even better, because I do't like Tiramisu. And it was all only 9.5 dinar! That's not dirt cheap but its not bad.
The coolest thing about Libya is the people. They are truly awesome and incredibly helpful. All of the drivers will do anything for you. And they love helping, its not just their job for them, they take tremendous pride in knowing they were helpful. Wonderful, wonderful peeps. When we were walking tonight on G Street, one of our drivers was going by and honked and waved with a huge smile on his face. I really love these guys. And everyone, EVERYONE, wants to see the baby, and hold him, and make faces at him. Tonight at Veranda, this guy, maybe 20 years old, give or take a few years, who worked there, came over and took him from me to hold him for a minute. Now you know there's no 20 year old stranger guy in the States thats going to come over to hold your baby. And it wasn't creepy, because they're great people.
This is one long boring blog. Don't stop reading the blog just because of me. Mel will still be doing most of the blogging. But this was a great day! I love our life here today. Some days I know I won't. But it feels awesome today. And this weekend, I think we're going to Leptis where there are apparently some of the greatest Roman Ruins. So stay tuned, Mel will get this blog back to something interesting. Shweya Ruse (don't know how to spell it but it means "a little rice") It's the best Arabic I've learned. Byeeeee
It's not boring Rob! :) We like to hear how things are going for you guys. It's a new adventure, and makes us feel like we are on it with you in a way!
ReplyDeleteThose ruins look fantastic! I so wish I could see them, too! Have fun--Julie
ReplyDeleteDon't stop writing, Mel and you have such different things to say! The contrast gives a nice full range of thoughts on the experience.
ReplyDeleteBy the way, I love that picture of Rocco! So cute! :)
