Cookie Nightmares

Why are some of the rarest, most expensive cookie jars SO scary looking?
They are probably so rare because people threw them away.
That's all.

Fabric Fabric Everywhere!

Well, I was doing so well! Then my fabric came in the mail and I've been otherwise occupied. Here's what I've been doing...
The safety vest vending machine
I didn't buy one, but we thought it
was kind of funny.

We went to a quilt and craft fair on Sunday.
I don't think Rob, his dad, and Rocco loved it, but I
did!

My first square, only 19 to go!
I think the colors are a lot prettier
than my cheap camera can
tell you.
I bought this precious sewing machine on Gumtree a few weeks ago, and it's perfect! It's just like the one I had at home, so that was nice to find.

This is what it should look like in the end. It was a little hard to pick out fabrics online. A lot hard, actually. Only because I needed a little of a lot of different kinds.
When I finish that one, I'll finish this one that I started forever ago. My mom sent it to me and I just got it on Thursday. Along with a lot of other fun things. Rocco got in on the fun too with coloring books, stickers, and pez candy that he wishes he likes, and tries to like, but says yuck every time :) He still loves the Kermit dispenser.
It should look something like this except a lot bigger.
Last night and today Rocco has been sickish. He has had a fever, which is easily fought off with tylenol, but still feels yuck otherwise. I'm thinking a cold is coming along. So he is getting the royal treatment of chips and crackers (absolutely the only thing he'll eat), toons, and a constant offer of water from me. Hopefully he'll get better soon, it's so sad to see him like this.
Other than that, not much has been going on. We are moving on Friday, so that should be fun.
OH! And...
Last night, I made Sweet Tomato Basil Bisque and Roasted Parmesan Potatoes for dinner. Rob's all time least favorite meal, my all time favorite. (in my defense, I make his tater tot casserole for him! With all due respect..yuck!) These recipes are both really good, and I think that all of you should try them. (I didn't put all the honey in the soup, actually only about 1 tablespoon (the sweet part didn't sound good at all), and I thickened it up with some flour, other than that it was the same and SO yum.)

Raccoon Getting Dressed?

"a woman riding her bike called police to report hearing what sounded like a raccoon sneeze or a zipper."
Saw this on Ellen today, it made me laugh right out loud. You can watch the clip HERE.

Weach Weach!

Rocco wanted me to change the channel, so I requested the remote control. He happily got up, picked up the remote, and stood about half way between where I was and where the remote was. Holding the remote out he said "Weach! Weach!". I said why don't you just bring it to me instead? He made me weach. I guess that goes to show how many times I make him weach weach on the counter to get something when I don't want to get up. :)

Touristy Fun

I must have some pretty exciting days to think I should blog every day. I guess we just have good times. We did a couple new things that I thought Rocco might like. We went to the bell tower and took the ferry to the zoo. I had a free family ticket to the top of the bell tower, so we used it out before it expired next month. I'm glad we did, but it wasn't anything I would have been happy to have paid the normal $30.00 for, that's for sure. The viewing deck was only 6 floors up, which I thought was kind of silly. From the office I worked at (brief as that was) we had an amazing view from the 35th floor. So 6 didn't seem so impressive.
Rob, and the city from the platform of the bell tower.
Rob and Rocco and the bells.
The bells.

The other side of the bell tower that looks over the river.
Rocco wasn't digging the sun in his eyes.

Rocco, looking at birds from the ferry.

I think I like taking the ferry better than the bus to the zoo. It's a bit more of a hassle, but it's cheaper than the bus, and I don't have to fold up the stroller. The busses that go out to the zoo are always the old ones that aren't handicapable. Which should be really nice when we live on side with those busses.
We'll see.
We also went to the zoo, which isn't a new thing, but we did get to see the penguins, which haven't been available to see since we got here. They might be new, I don't know. They were little and cute.
I always much prefer going to the zoo with Rob than just Rocco and I, so that was really nice he was able to come along. So, this is a video of Rocco on the slide that he looooves. It's kind of weird, but pretty fast, so he loves it.

Why It Was The Best Day

Listen up everybody. It was a great day.
Here's why:
1.)
I found my new favorite place to eat. It's called Freshia and has the best phad thia in all the land. It's a noodle bar and is right between the post office (where I was) and the grocery store (where I was going). I needed to eat right that second or I was going to bite Rocco's head clean off. (at least I recognized it, right?) I may have then brought Rob there and eaten the same thing for dinner. He agreed that it was just such a delight. (it doesn't hurt that its half the price of one of my other faves, Wagamama, and twice the food)

2.)
Rob's dad got back today. Which is great and all, but it's what he brought with him that was fantastic. The stroller that I have been waiting so patiently for. It's the sweetest thing you'll ever see.
Rocco loves it.
You can move the seats all around and have two, or one, or...none? It also feels like you aren't hardly pushing a thing. It's going to be really good to have what with pushing two little nuggets around this city. It's big, but not nearly as big as a normal double stroller.
Also, he brought back a pair of these bands that should hopefully help with the feeling sick thing I have going on. I also got a pair in the mail from my dear friend Hildy just yesterday. So, I'm set! I hear they are great, so now I'm waiting on another yuck day to use them. I'll let you know.

3.)
I saw the biggest spider I've ever seen in my life. (which isn't actually a good thing.) We had some pretty huge spiders in our apartment in Bourbonnais, but this one was like three of those and hanging from a tree. I couldn't figure out what kind it is from looking online, but it was straight from the devil...I know it.

4.)
It's 9:20pm and I've been in bed since 9. A day couldn't end better than that. Rocco was deprived of his nap today, so I get to go to bed early...which is what I'm going to do right NOW.
:)

Vacuum Lines

Today while Rocco was eating breakfast, I vacuumed him bedroom and picked up all his toys. When he came up to get dressed, he walked in the room and ran to the area with the most lines in the carpet and jumped around and said "OHH Wook at dis!! Uuuprise!!" (By uprise, he meant surprise. Not a rebellion.) It was really funny. I can't blame him for being excited, I love the vacuum lines also.
P.S. Those aren't my vacuum lines, I just thought they were beautifully straight and perfect...who does that??

Someday I'll Be Livin' in a Big Old City.

Today we packed a picnic and spent a couple hours at the beach. It was beautiful, as you can see from the pictures. Rocco makes things less than relaxing, but it's nice to let him run around. At least he isn't interested in going anywhere near the water.
This week is the last week in this house, so it's a packing kind of week. We don't actually have that much to pack. It's a furnished house so we only have to pack our things. I've never actually been into the new house, but I think it's going to be really nice. I'll let you all know!

Yo Gabba Gabba

If you have seen Yo Gabba Gabba, you'll know why this made me laugh.
It was a little random, he doesn't actually watch that show anymore. If you haven't, just enjoy his sweet cheeks :)

18 May 2012

they said there would be elephants.

The past week or so I've been feeling a little under the weather. Today, the weather cleared a little, I thought I should get Rocco of the house for awhile. We were waiting for the bus to the park, (which, admittedly is the lazy way to get there...it's totally within walking distance. I feel better now.) which is the same bus that takes us downtown. So, I asked Rocco if he would rather go to the zoo, or to the park. He very excitedly settled on the zoo. Rob's office is about a block from where we change busses on our way to the zoo so we met him for lunch on the way. Which is actually a normal Friday occurrence, I'm not sure why we weren't planning on going today. (I'm rambling, I know. Sorry.)
Anyway, Rocco wanted the zoo, so we went to the zoo. I was taking him there once a week before I found the first trimester narcolepsy, nausea, and general laziness. So we hadn't been in a month or so. He was so much better this time! It was pretty fun. He was so excited to see all the animals he ran to every one. Which is a pretty big change from the slow, uninterested meandering he did before. This time I had to hurry to keep up!
So, long story short, he's a pretty great zoo friend in his old age.

After a little nap, we went to a mexican restaurant in Northbridge called Zapatas. It was pretty good, but like Australia, it's far from Mexico/an.
Now we are watching Get The Gringo for the second time. It's a really good movie, but definitely not for the faint of heart. There's violence upon violence...which I hate. It's worth closing my eyes through a lot of it.
Alright, that's enough rambling for one night.

Leftovers

So, tonight I was having left over spaghetti and was looking in the fridge for the parmesan cheese. You know, the powdery kind that's a little sketch. I looked and I looked and I couldn't find it. Finally I just had to come to terms with the fact it wasn't there anymore. I had to just close the door and go on without it. Then I remembered I had real parmesan in there somewhere, which was better anyway. I guess in life you just have to give up the search for one thing before you find another that's way better.
That wasn't as random as it sounded...I promise.

Wedded Bliss!

Saturday morning my alarm went off at 3:40. We had a big event to get to, so we sleepily got out of bed and went to the wedding. In our living room. It was such a bummer to have to miss Beka and Channing's wedding, but this was a great substitute! Matt called us on Skype so we could watch the ceremony, which was lovely. While we didn't get to spend the four hours floating around the bay with everyone, we got to see the very special ten minutes. I can't wait to see the pictures, it seemed like everyone was having a lot of fun, which is of course no surprise. Knowing Beka, I'm thinking fun was pretty high on the priority list. I'm so happy for them! Being married is the best. :)

City Beach

We jumped in the car when Rob got home from work today and headed to the beach. I'm loving being so close to such beautiful beaches. My favorite is a rainy, cold beach. Maybe because I grew up going to the Oregon coast. Sweatpants were worn far more frequently than a swimming suit.
The weekend is young and plans are few, but I think it will be a good one! I know for the rest of the family it will be a really fun weekend with the wedding in San Diego. We're feeling pretty sad I couldn't go. At least we get to see them in a few months!!
So, Happy Mother's Day, and Congratulations to Beka and Channing!!
