On the first day, after long, treacherous travels, we finally made it! We got ourselves situated in the teeny hotel room, and headed out to find some dinner. I'm sure that everyone back home will scoff at our choice. It was a much deserved, very American meal! After four weeks of Libyan food, or even homemade food, it was really nice to go to an American restaurant.
Rob got a patty melt, and I got a veggie burger...I can still taste it! : )
We walked for awhile, in awe of the crazy detail around every corner. They didn't just throw up buildings when they needed one there. There are so many intricate pieces to each doorway, random fountain, and statue. We also went to a little cafe across the street from our hotel. I had delicious gelato, and Rob had a beer. That was the first pacifier that Rocco lost, I brought 2, so the rest of the trip we were living on one. I was very careful not to lose that one!

Our second day, we had breakfast at the hotel, which was surprisingly tasty! We then boarded our tour bus to further announce to Italy that, indeed we do not belong here, and silly tourists. It was really fun though! I think that was my favorite part about our trip. We got to see everything for the first time on it, and got to hear the history behind everything. Well, not everything, but a lot. It took us by the Coliseum, a few basilicas, The Vatican, a castle or two, really almost everything we wanted to see. We also saw where Cesar was probably killed. I don't know how they figure that out, but I thought it was cool.
Okay, we are getting into our day 3 pictures now. On day 3, we visited the Vatican museums. Well, I think so, they were confusing. We went to
St. Peter's Basilica, and the huuuuuge church that the Sistine chapel is in. In the pictures, Rob is standing next to a pope statue, I am feeding Rocco behind a pillar, and in the other one, petting a dog we found there, she was SO precious! Also, Rob and Rocco are standing next to the fountain in front of St. Peter's basilica. I accidentally got two pictures of my feeding Rocco...sorry, but I don't really know how to delete just one. Then we have a couple pictures of us and Rocco outside in a court yard in The Vatican. I think we really enjoyed that day, although all
the walking really got to us. Those churches are SO big, and you have to go through a maze of sorts to get to the Sistine chapel. I was wishing that we could have seen that part first. By the time you get around to seeing it, you've already seen so many painted ceilings by then, it isn't so special. That made me sad, I was so excited to see it, then it was a little anticlimactic.
That night, we found our favorite restaurant. I can't remember the name, but it was SO delicious, and had such a great atmosphere. Also, to make things better, it was cheap! ...compared to other places. We had pizza, their house white wine, and tiramisu. Even Rob liked the wine, which means it was really good, because he doesn't like wine. Well, it means that it was sweet and tasty, not necessarily a wine connoisseur's idea of good wine. We also figured out that an Italian meal is not one to be hurried. It takes at least 2 hours. That night is was great, and we enjoyed the lingering, other nights it would have been nice to get a quick meal, but there is was good.
Okay, fourth day pictures are here. We rode the bus to the Fontana di Trevi, or, The Trevi Fountain. It was so massive and again, going with the flow of everything else, so detailed! We threw coins in so ensure our return to Roma. You are technically also supposed to drink the water to seal the deal. Needless to say, that part is usually conveniently vetoed.
We also found a nice little fast food pizza place. They have huge rectangular pizzas that they just cut off big pieces of and weigh. I thought that was kind of smart. It was also very good. we walked a lot this day! We went to a lot of stores, and did some people watching. In the afternoon, it was nap time! For dinner it was McDonalds for Rob, and pizza for me. That was one thing that Rob was really excited for. Mcdonalds and Burger King. I could do without those, but he loves it. The fries are what I like, and they have good fries here. Not that I should be eating them anyway.

Our trip home was nothing to write home about, so I won't. I almost made us late for the plane trying to buy a necklace for a friend who lost hers awhile ago. I would have been a hero, but instead was...not. : ) Sorry again, Rob! Apparently you can't buy anything from the duty free store unless you have your boarding pass. Mine was like half a mile away with Rob and Rocco. So, my running was to no avail. We did end up making it home! So, here we are.
I liked this random foot. We were just walking, and it looks like there use to be a statue here, but it needed relocating. Apparently the foot was not part of the process...
For dinner this night, we went back to our favorite restaurant. We had the pasta also this night, it was also very good!
Here we are on our Fifth day. It was very much like the third day, except we saw the Spanish steps instead. I was determined to see them, and take a picture like the poster I bought there of Audrey Hepburn and Gregory Peck in Roman Holiday. We did, it was silly, but fun! I'm not really sure why these steps are so special, but they were very popular! We did a little window shopping, and walking this day also. It was
a nice relaxing day. This day was also a Hard Rock Cafe day.
I had a huge salad! It was so yummy! You can't really get just a huge delicious salad here. At least, not that I've found. Not a lot is better than a Cobb salad, hold the chicken and bacon. Talking about makes me want it again, so I'll move on. Although, Red Robin is calling my name right now...
After Hard Rock, we went back to the hotel for a much needed nap. Our attempt at visiting the favorite restaurant was ruined by a closed sign, unfortunately. Instead, we ate at an easter egg restaurant. I don't think they sold Easter eggs there, but their menu looked like an Easter egg. It was very warm there, and we took the rest of our pizza for take away. It was good, and our server was nice, but the heat was bothering us all.
Our last day in Rome was spent packing and arranging train schedules. We walked around the mall at the Grand Termini, finding that yes, even there everything is grossly over priced.
Yesterday, I watched Roman Holiday. I had seen in a long time ago, and didn't remember what it was really about. So, I rented it on Itunes so Rocco and I could see Rome in the 20's. It was fun. Surprisingly, it looks very similar. Old.
Thanks for sharing your vacation notes, some of us only see softball fields.
